Learning Overview

Here is the main big learning we will be doing in term 1. If you have any skills or expertise that you would like to share with us then please feel free to get in touch 🙂

Have a fabulous weekend and I will see you all on Monday! If remaining profiles could be brought in next week as early as possible, that would be greatly appreciated!

Finding Our Feet…

We are beginning to find our feet in P5, we have used the last few days looking at where we are in our learning, setting new targets for this year (literacy, numeracy and HWB) and it is our responsibility to make sure that we are making time in the week to make sure we work on these. Some of us gave ourselves time scales of when we would like to complete the target. Share at home what your new targets are!

We have been working on spelling, this will come home next week and may be different to what was done last year. We will all be looking at the same spelling pattern across the week and the children will be able to work at their level through the words that they can make with that pattern. It is very important that the children can actually apply the spelling in their writing and not just learn it for a week and forget about it. The children will be using the words across the week in all different aspects of literacy which will make it more meaningful to them.

Reading books will begin next week alongside our class novel. These will form some of our teaching across the week and will be used in a wide variety of activities. It is important that children are not just reading the reading book provided and be reading another book at home, by this stage the children should be able to read for enjoyment and it should be part of their routine at home.

Our focus in numeracy at the moment is place value, we have been doing some work on 3 and 4 digit numbers and making sure that we understand the process when we are adding 10s, 100s etc to these numbers. Groups as always are very fluid and children will be working alongside lots of different people in all different areas. We have got our basic facts up and running again too and already some of us are moving up a level.

Today we looked at ways to make a number, 3 numbers were given and it was our choice which one we chose. We are looking to be able to identify ourselves where we are in our learning and being able to justify why we are choosing certain things. Share with someone at home what number you chose and the ways you made that number.

Friendship has been a topic of talk this week. As we are a new class it is important that we look our for each other and it is our responsibility to make sure that we are all happy and that we have someone to play with. We must make sure at all times we are respecting each others rights and if we do want some space and privacy, then that is okay.

Woah, that was a long one! Thursday again tomorrow, PE after break! Rainbow day with a twist on Friday! Check the main school blog for info! See you all tomorrow! 🙂

Swimming

Thank you for all the offers to help with swimming, I will get together with Miss Earnshaw next week to get a rota together and you will find out when you are needed.

For Monday, could Ali (George’s Mum) and Janet (Kieron’s Mum) come along. If you meet us at the back gate at 10:25 and we should be back at 12:30. If you could comment on the post so that I know you have seen it.

Thank you!

Have a great weekend everyone! Well done for an amazing first week in P5. You have made me one happy teacher!

A little plea…

I know it is just the start of term but there is lots to set up (especially when you have moved stage). Those who know me know I like to laminate and unfortunately I have no A3 pockets left and still quite a lot to do… If anyone is able to donate a packet of A3 laminating pouches I would be forever grateful 🙂

First Day Fun!

Wow, just like that the first day of school has arrived! Primary 5, can hardly believe it! So nice to be back with so many of the children that I taught in P2 and also lovely to have a new bunch. I can already tell that this year is going to be fabulous!

We had a great morning, starting with PE and then we had a chance to chat and share what we did in the holidays and some targets and expectations for this year. We have 31 children in the class so it is going to be our job to make sure everyone tidies up after themselves that we help others so that we have a great learning space.

We designed a T-shirt that was about ourselves. We talked about expectations and what they should look like before we started. They are going to look great once they are finished.

Just before lunch we did the Daily 10, this is our chance to challenge ourselves, whether is is by trying to run or walk a bit faster, do an extra lap or just try to keep running the whole time. We are looking to increase our stamina and fitness.

In the afternoon we are going to spend time talking about our ‘Class Charter’. This is linked to the UNCRC (Rights of the Child). We are going to talk about what we expect of each other, what we expect of ourselves and what we expect of Miss Rae. Our Charter will be based on ‘Toy Story’ as we have a new year and a new class, we have the chance to build new friendships, develop current friendships and as a class be loyal to each other. We will continue to work on this across the week.

We will also be bringing home ‘My Little Book of Things’ which has information that you need to know and the children need to know and it will also (when it’s up and running) be where spelling words are kept. These must come in to school each day. Blue bags are also going to be used, if you don’t have one then an A4 wallet will be fine.

Welcome Back!

Looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow!

I hope you all had the best Summer and are ready for an amazing year in Primary 5!

You have PE first thing tomorrow, so if you could come to school in your kit that would be great, if not you can change when you get here! Remember water bottles and indoor shoes 🙂

See you tomorrow for the best year!

Miss Rae
