Dynamics

Today, we explored dynamics in music. We learned the Italian words and the abbreviations for very soft, soft, gentle, loud and very loud. Can you share with someone at home the Italian words? We worked in teams to explore the dynamics and performed little pieces using our hands and feet.

Make Your Mark!

On the 15th of September, it was International Dot Day. This is a global celebration of creativity, courage and collaboration. The story of a little girl who says she can’t draw and her teacher doesn’t let her believe that. She allows her trust her abilities and believe that she is brave enough to ‘make her mark‘.

We shared this story last week together, and listened to The Dot Song . This then lead us to make our own dots in the style of a hot air balloon that will take our mark to wherever we would like to go. Look out for the finished products…

Who knew folding and sticking paper could be quite as tricky as it turned out to be. They look amazing already though!

Times Tables

Log ins for TT Rockstars were issued today. Regular practise of times tables are needed. Spend time with your child each day (5 or 10 minutes) learning the table that they are working on. Say it in order e.g. 4X1=4 4X2=8 etc and then when they are gaining more confidence ask them to start at a random one and work up and down. I explained to the children the vital importance of learning their tables. The rest of maths will become so much easier once they know them.

Make some flowers together at home, like this to help them.

P5 Term 1 Home Learning Project

It’s a Bug’s Life!

Started our Topic yesterday with a little bit of identifying the living thing, from the past and now. We used the Chrome Books to help us and then we worked with our partner to identify physical and behavioural characteristics about them. We could choose how we wanted to display this information, we haven’t quite finished so will continue with this today. Our digital skills are improving, typing is what is letting us down (get practising the game).

Buddy Time

This week, we created our learning profiles. The exciting thing about being in P5 is you get to have online profiles. Anything on a chrome book is fun right?! It appears so… so we got the experts from Primary 7 in to help us create them. The children should be able to show you them at home and it allows you to see what their learning targets are and means they can share their learning with you regularly. It may take a while to get in the swing of things. But I have every faith that we will be digital experts before we know it!

We are learning to LOVE to read!

Our display is ready, we just need some finished books so we can share why we love them and hopefully inspire others to want to read them.

Reading is such an amazing skill to have an even more amazing if you really love it. This year, I hope to be able to develop all the children’s love for reading. There is a place for so many things in the curriculum and outside of school but to be able to enjoy a book is a truly wonderful thing!

A target that I am setting myself this year also is to go to bed with a book at least 3 times a week… can anyone beat me on that one?

In This Class We Stick Together!

Another busy week here in Primary 5.

Last Friday we started to look at the Cactus plant, we talked about what we knew about them and then we learned some information that we didn’t know. They are interesting plant and lots of us have them in our houses. We created a piece of art that focused on using different lines, textures and patterns. All of our work is unique, which is like the Cacti, they come in all shapes and sizes and colours but belong to the same type of plant. A bit like us, we all have different qualities that make us unique but together we are one team! So we stick together, just like Cacti!

We had free writing this morning, we could choose the topic of our choice to write about. But to be successful we had to: write in an engaging way, use capital letters and full stops correctly (we need to continually work on this) and make sure our work made sense before we are ‘finished). We need to get into the habit of checking our work as lots of us say we are finished but not once have we looked over what we have done. We need to become experts at self-correcting so in 5 minute periods, we all stopped where we were, looked over our writing and checked we were on target to be successful.

In Numeracy this week, we have been adjusting ourselves to make sure we are in the right place for our learning. Miss Rae is getting her head around where each child is at and focusing on place value (definition from Angus- ‘knowing the value or how much a number is worth’) and addition alongside this. It is really important that the children know what they are learning and why, so please have conversations with them at home so that the language of learning is happening all around them and then it becomes habit.

Big Cheers to us for being the first class of the week! Lots of compliments from adults around the school about us! Let’s keep it up! Photo to follow!
