In This Class We Stick Together!

Another busy week here in Primary 5.

Last Friday we started to look at the Cactus plant, we talked about what we knew about them and then we learned some information that we didn’t know. They are interesting plant and lots of us have them in our houses. We created a piece of art that focused on using different lines, textures and patterns. All of our work is unique, which is like the Cacti, they come in all shapes and sizes and colours but belong to the same type of plant. A bit like us, we all have different qualities that make us unique but together we are one team! So we stick together, just like Cacti!

We had free writing this morning, we could choose the topic of our choice to write about. But to be successful we had to: write in an engaging way, use capital letters and full stops correctly (we need to continually work on this) and make sure our work made sense before we are ‘finished). We need to get into the habit of checking our work as lots of us say we are finished but not once have we looked over what we have done. We need to become experts at self-correcting so in 5 minute periods, we all stopped where we were, looked over our writing and checked we were on target to be successful.

In Numeracy this week, we have been adjusting ourselves to make sure we are in the right place for our learning. Miss Rae is getting her head around where each child is at and focusing on place value (definition from Angus- ‘knowing the value or how much a number is worth’) and addition alongside this. It is really important that the children know what they are learning and why, so please have conversations with them at home so that the language of learning is happening all around them and then it becomes habit.

Big Cheers to us for being the first class of the week! Lots of compliments from adults around the school about us! Let’s keep it up! Photo to follow!
